Wide leg forward fold – Prasarita Padottonasana

A beautiful all body stretch and strengthener that simultaneously calms the body

Benefits:
Lengthens the spine
Stretches the back and the legs
Increases leg muscle strength and flexibility
Opens the hips
Releases shoulder tension
Good range of motion for better flexibility
Massages internal organs
Calms the mind, soothes the nervous system
Reducing anxiety and stress
Builds awareness and confidence

Important points:
Use blocks if you cannot reach the floor
Lift up the knee caps to bring strength to the thighs
Be strong through the legs
Ground your feet into the floor
Hinge at the hips with a flat lengthened back

Contradictions:
Lower back issues may need to avoid full bend

 

This is one of my most favourite asana’s, Such a beautiful stretch and you get to see the world from a different perspective – upside down.
